Ska

ok-
my neighbour killed his wife because she had wanted to leave him.
he didn't stab her tho, he strangled her and then told his friend, who in turn told the police. The man then tried to kill himself.
hmh. poor woman. it gives me the creeps to think that this probably began as a discussion, a little (?)quarrel...and maybe, probably, possibly, got out of control...but now, someone is dead. and two kids have lost their mother. and possibly their father, too. i mean, how can a child live with a parent who has killed the other?!

well, life up here has returned to normal. because i always do, i drove past the "haunted house" - but there wasn't even a candle. nothing.

Yesterday evening I went to Bonn to meet up with Benjamin.
Our plan was to go to a band night, where four bands were going to perform. I was - of course - very fashionably late. F****** traffic - TRUE!
But there was still enough time for salads and Irish stew at the Irish pub and of course plenty of gossip, catching up, teacher's talk....
The band evening was to take place in a club (?) called "Session" - which in all my time in Bonn, I had never heard of, never been to...it turned out to be a cute - quaint - slightly grotty - underground "hole" with only a tiny stage, a tiny bar but loads of guests, all in the mood for music. Unfortunately, only two bands performed.
The reason we were there was because Ben's mentor at his school is the percussionist in a band called "Kapelle 13". I can't find anything on the internet about them, so you'll have to make do with my account of their performance - for now. I had never before been introduced to Ska, although I sort of knew what it was, and had, of course, heard the name of the genre oodles of times - but without knowing what exactly it is.
Last night's performance has not "converted" me in any way, but I can definetely say that the music is GREAT!
it's light and "fun" and you can't but dance to it! The band itself consists of about 8(? can't remember exactly) musicians and they all play different instruments: guitar, bass, trombone, saxophones, keyboard, percussion....and there are various singers. at first I thought "oh, god - what's this?!" - it looked like a brass band, but as it turned out, the music they played was, indeed, very cool and I had a marvelous time - listening, watching and dancing.
They played numerous encores and the atmosphere was phenomenal, from the moment they struck the first note until they went off stage.

The guy who came on then, was absolutely frightening...both music-wise and appearance-wise. so, we left.

A quick visit to the (in)famous "Blow Up" left me feeling nostalgic and OLD. but, nevertheless, it was great to be back in that little cramped place where I, and a fellow blogger of mine (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), spent numerous nights. happy memories.
Last night, of course, was different. But the place hadn't changed.
We change.

I sped home, more or less alone on the motorway, letting the images of the night find a place in my memory and feeling content and snug at heart, pleased to know that there are so many nice people in this world.
